The Truck From Kurt Russell's Overboard Was Also In Another Classic Movie
By WITNEY SEIBOLD
In Garry Marshall's 1987 film "Overboard," Kurt Russell's character, Dean, drives an old Dodge pickup truck that symbolizes his low income, working-class background.
The same truck also appears in the opening scene of the 1989 movie "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation," driven by redneck characters that Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) meets.
In the film, the truck is depicted as a piece of junk driven by low-class hillbillies, a stark contrast to the Griswolds' more affluent lifestyle and their swanky station wagon.
This coincidence occurred because MGM, the studio behind "Overboard," and Warner Bros., which produced "Christmas Vacation," rented the vehicle from the same Dodge rental outlet.
