The Three Post-Release Changes George Lucas Made To Empire Strikes Back
By DANIELLE RYAN
Director George Lucas made post-release changes to “Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.” In its limited theatrical run, he tweaked the film with new effects, reshoots, and cuts.
In a retrospective on the film for StarWars.com, Tom Smith of Industrial Light & Magic recalled Lucas asking for reshoots before the film was released to all theaters.
The crew had a mere three weeks before the movie's wide release to create three new shots that cleared up each character’s location at the end of the film.
The new footage showed that Luke and Leia were on one ship, while Lando and Chewie were on another, en route to rescue Han from Jabba the Hutt.
