The Star Trek Theme Song Lyrics You Never Knew Existed
By WITNEY SEIBOLD
The original theme music for Gene Roddenberry's 1966 sci-fi series "Star Trek" was composed by Alexander Courage, but the credits also mention Roddenberry as a co-author.
Roddenberry, without Courage's knowledge, had penned some lyrics for the theme song, which were published but never recorded. They only allowed Roddenberry to claim authorship.
The last lines of the lyrics read, "I know his journey ends never [...] his star trek will go on forever, but tell him while he wanders his starry sea [...] remember, remember me."
When "Star Trek" initially ran, Courage was offered royalties for every time the theme ran. However, having two authors meant every single royalty had to be split in half.
