The Star Trek Episode Patrick Stewart Thinks Brent Spiner Is Owed An Emmy For
By WITNEY SEIBOLD
In his autobiography “Making It So: A Memoir,” Patrick Stewart recalled an episode of “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” that he thought Brent Spiner deserved an Emmy for.
In the episode “The Offspring,” Spiner’s character Data constructs an android daughter, Lal, who tragically dies. Stewart said Spiner's performance proved he was a great actor.
Data finds that Lal’s brain is not stable and she will break down. Lal's death scene is heartbreaking and highlights Spiner's ability to convey emotions despite playing an android.
Stewart was amazed by spiner’s performance, writing: “he found new depths to his character's Pinocchio-like predicament of being a human invention who wishes to become human.”
Stewart also expressed his disappointment in the Daytime Emmys, saying, “It's a major injustice to me that Brent has never won an Emmy for playing Data.”
