The Star Trek Cast’s Hijinks Sent J.J. Abrams Storming Off Set

In an interview with Female Magazine, director J.J. Abrams admitted that his young, feisty cast of 2009’s “Star Trek” was a little too upbeat for his taste on one stressful day.
Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldaña, and the rest of the cast were struck by a fit of laughter one day during a time when the production was falling behind schedule.
Abrams recalled, “We were shooting this one scene and they were all together. [...] It was really late. It was just, we were way over schedule. We had all this work to do.”
The director added, “The actors were literally — they could not get through their lines without laughing. [...] [T]hey were all goofing off [...] But I was trying to wrangle.”
Eventually, Abrams lost his patience. He expressed his anger openly to his cast in a last-ditch effort to straighten them up and cease the laughter, then he stormed off the set.
Abrams said, “[F]inally, I was like, ‘When you guys are ready, come get me.’ And I just walked off.” Abrams was soon called back, and the cast snapped back into professional mode.
