The Simpsons Finally Answered A Question Fans Have Had For Years
By MICHAEL BOYLE
It's been a long remarked-upon fact that most of Homer's life doesn't make any sense on “The Simpsons,” including how he keeps his job at the nuclear power plant.
However, Season 35’s premiere, “Homer's Crossing,” shines some light on this question. It's revealed that Homer’s office is fake, and the buttons don’t actually do anything.
This revelation raises more questions than it answers, such as when the change might have happened and why the famously greedy Mr. Burns would even keep Homer around.
The episode might have already answered these questions, as the premiere and past stories show that Homer can be an extremely destructive force when put in a position of power.
The episode sees Homer become a crossing guard and save a child. He becomes a local hero and is given some authority, which begins his ill-fated power trip.
Homer nearly destroys the town in this escapade. Mr. Burns may have realized long ago that the best way to keep Springfield safe is to create a fake job for Homer.
