The Shining Inspired A God-Like Character In Buffy The Vampire Slayer
By SHAE SENNETT
Clare Kramer found inspiration in Jack Nicholson's character, Jack from "The Shining," while shaping the formidable villain Glorificus (Glory) in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer."
Glory, an all-powerful being on a relentless war path, faces exile on Earth within the vessel of Ben, a compassionate male doctor tasked with cleaning up her messes.
Glorificus is driven to the brink by isolation, paralleling Nicholson's character in Kubrick's "The Shining." It makes sense that Kramer drew inspiration from him
"Playing Glory and getting into her mindset was actually pretty easy!" wrote Kramer in a comment on a Reddit thread. "She was a woman on a mission, with a singular goal in mind."
"She had very little, if any, social constraints [...] I tapped into that [...], as well as based the character a bit on Jack Nicholas' character from 'The Shining'," she added.
Glory’s madness isn't the only similarity to Jack. Bursting through doors in her first appearance, she echoes the power and destructive appetite seen in Jack in "The Shining."
