The Sad Star Trek: Discovery Scene Blu Del Barrio Couldn’t Stop Laughing At
By VALERIE ETTENHOFER
According to Comic Book Resources, actor Blu del Barrio revealed that while their last day on the set of "Star Trek: Discovery" was emotional, it wasn’t in the way you’d expect.
"I could not stop laughing," they shared in answer to how it felt to give these characters their "final send-off" in a sequence that was filmed after principal photography wrapped.
"Everybody was crying, but I couldn't stop laughing," del Barrio reiterated. The non-binary actor compared their incongruous giggles to someone reacting oddly at a funeral.
"I like, I went into it like when you cry at a funeral, I don't know what it was," they explained further. "The direction was 'Cry. You can cry. You can be sad.'"
Director Jonathan Frakes previously told Variety that the show's planned two-part finale was suddenly turned into just one episode, leading to the need for additional footage.
Director Olatunde Osunsanmi finished the episode, and the sudden shoot called for the actor to cry, but as del Barrio told CBR with a laugh, they just "couldn't stop laughing."
