The Russo Brothers Have A Very Fair Response To The MCU Phase 4 Criticism
By WITNEY SEIBOLD
Now firmly ensconced in its fourth phase, the MCU has encountered criticisms for being perhaps aimless, with its newer films like “Eternals” and “Doctor Strange 2” seeming wildly disconnected. Fans are baffled at where these films are going, and the Russo brothers have a response to these critiques.
Anthony and Joe Russo have similar thoughts on the great success of the Marvel franchises. Anthony stated in an interview with The Hollywood Report that “not every movie has to be liked globally,” while his brother Joe claimed that some people were just being contrarian because Marvel has become so popular.
The Russo Brothers continued the conversation in an additional interview they gave with The Direct, with Joe pointing out that a variety of new characters, stories, genres, and scenarios may make up for any of the MCU's currently perceived shortcomings. Even still, the movies need to feel similar to each other as they are all still interconnected.
While there has been a great deal more variety in the series than before, it may not all be planned out like in the past. The MCU has its audience so well-trained to look forward to the next thing that many of them are finding themselves disappointed to learn that the plan may be improvised.
