The Runner-Up For Star Wars’ Princess Leia Went On To Be A Famous Rock Star
By JENNA BUSCH
While it’s almost impossible to imagine anyone other than Carrie Fisher playing Princess Leia, George Lucas revealed that a now famous musician was considered for the role.
The runner-up was Terri Nunn, the lead singer of the band Berlin, known for songs like “Take My Breath Away” and “Metro.” She spoke about it in a 2022 interview with Rave It Up.
Nunn shared that she auditioned with Harrison Ford, saying, “I’m sitting there with Harrison Ford, and we’re reading these lines, and I had no idea what the hell is an R2-D2.”
Nunn brought a certain softness to the part that is very different from Fisher’s interpretation. While Nunn was great, Lucas felt Fisher had all of the character’s qualities.
In an interview on “Conversations from the Edge,” Lucas told Fisher she got the role because she had a “very mature streak,” with a “very vulnerable kind of young girlish streak.”
