The Rise Of Skywalker Plot Point Star Wars Is Still Trying To Explain
By WITNEY SEIBOLD
In “Star Wars: Episode IX — The Rise of Skywalker,” C-3PO's memory is wiped to access the data needed to decipher the Sith runes on the Blade of Ochi.
However, in one of the closing scenes of “The Rise of Skywalker,” R2-D2 uses a back-up version of C-3PO’s memories to restore him back to his normal self.
In Michael Kogge's “Rise of Skywalker” novelization, he provides clarification on which memories were restored. According to the book, C-3PO might recall all of his memories.
However, in Marc Sumerak's 2023 book, “Star Wars: The Secrets of the Wookiees,” it becomes clear that the droid's memory isn't fully restored.
C-3PO narrated, “However, seeing that I am still recovering from the effects of a complete redacted memory bypass, I cannot guarantee that my files are completely up-to-date.”
C-3PO also seemingly doesn’t remember Order 66, stating, “How ghastly! It makes me glad that my own memories of this period were thoroughly wiped.”
