Netflix’s “Aftermath” is another entry in the horror subgenre best described as “couple buys a home where a tragedy occurred”; however, this film has left couples terrified.
In the movie, Kevin Dadich (Shawn Ashmore) and his wife Natalie (Ashley Greene) buy and move into a new house where the previous owner’s brother and sister-in-law died.
The couple begins experiencing strange occurrences, such as unexplained love notes and text messages, and Natalie starts seeing a slender man stalking her when she’s home alone.
Natalie sets up cameras all over the house to capture proof of the mysterious man, in what begins a series of reveals that make “Aftermath” go from a thriller to a mystery.
“Aftermath” has most likely left its viewers unsettled due to the film successfully capturing the feeling of being observed, much like the Netflix series “The Watcher.”
Both stories are based on true events, with “Aftermath” taking inspiration from a People exposé about a couple who bought a house and then were harassed by a rival buyer.
While the film’s surface-level ghost story may seem a little predictable, its outlandish ending is something only sharp-eyed true crime lovers will most likely be able to guess.
