The Problem With Bringing Back Timothee Chalamet For Dune 3
By WITNEY SEIBOLD AND HANNAH SHAW-WILLIAMS
The adaptation of Frank Herbert's "Dune" series, directed by Denis Villeneuve, faces a dilemma concerning the protagonist, Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet).
At the beginning of the series, Atreides is only 15 years old. Within a few years, he survives an assassination attempt, moves into the desert, and becomes the Fremen Messiah.
Chalamet's casting as Paul is problematic for the sequel "Dune: Messiah." He would portray a 30-year-old Emperor who has initiated a galaxy-wide jihad while raising two children.
The problem lies with the actor's youthful appearance, boyish features, and clear skin, which confuse his actual age. Some worry that he might not age fast enough for the sequel.
Villeneuve expressed frustration with Chalamet's youthfulness but jokingly suggested a solution, stating, “He will look forever young. We'll have to use the magic of A.I.”
