The Original Title Of Beetlejuice 2 Paid Tribute To A Horror Classic
By SANDY SCHAEFER
Much of Tim Burton’s career has been spent paying homage to classic horror films from Hammer Film Productions. His “Beetlejuice” movie draws inspiration from many of those films.
It’s only fitting that his long-awaited sequel, “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” tipped its hat to them directly with its alternate title from the 1990s: “Beetlejuice 2024 A.D.”
When speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Burton shared, “It’s been, what? 35 years. [Editor’s note: It’s been 36 years.] So it didn’t feel like ‘Beetlejuice 2’ to me.”
He added, “The other one I thought of because one of my favorite Dracula movies is ‘Dracula A.D. 1972,’ was ‘Beetlejuice 2024 A.D.’ But this was a nice simple one.”
This name would have honored the unique “Dracula” film and paid respect to Burton’s hero and legendary “Dracula” actor, Christopher Lee.
