In 1981, John Carpenter's cult classic “Escape From New York” wowed audiences with gritty sci-fi action, depicting a dystopian New York City as a massive maximum-security prison.

Russell reprised the role of Snake Plissken in Carpenter's "Escape from L.A.," has had a successful acting career, and long term relationship with actress Goldie Hawn.
