The Only Surviving Stars Of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
By BJ COLANGELO
"Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" is a whimsical story of a magical car with vibrant characters, lavish costuming, fantastic special effects, and catchy songs.
As Caractacus Potts, Dick Van Dyke was arguably one of the most well-known stars of the movie, and his stage and screen career continued to span over seven decades.
At 98 years, he has won many awards, been honored with lifetime achievements, officially listed as a Disney legend, and became the oldest competitor on “The Masked Singer.”
Heather Ripley was a perfect Jemima Potts — her only professional film role. As a child stage actor in Scotland, she took lessons to sound British for the movie.
After the film, Ripley auditioned but didn’t land more roles. She became an optometrist for her family's business and an anti-nuclear power activist to protect the environment.
More recently, Potts was Principal of the Academy of Live and Recorded Arts (ALRA) but resigned in 2021 after accusations of racism. Hall has since maintained a low public profile.
