The Muppets Mayhem Makes A Peter Jackson Horror Film Part Of The Same Universe
By DREW TINNIN
“The Muppets Mayhem” keeps the franchise’s long-standing tradition of pop culture references and cameos by bringing Peter Jackson and one of his earliest creations to the series.
“Track 7: Eight Days a Week” features Jackson and a reference to his raunchy R-rated puppet film, “Meet the Feebles,” linking the dark 1989 comedy to the Muppet universe.
Muppet Floyd Pepper greets Jackson in the episode and says, “You know, we ain’t seen you since that night in Wellington, when we met the Feebles.”
The director replies, “Yeah it was a bad night. Two of them are in witness protection. The rest are in prison.” Given how depraved the Feebles are, it’s a surprise anyone survived.
Jackson’s “Meet the Feebles” follows Heidi the Hippo and Robert the Hedgehog, as they navigate through a world filled with drugs, sex, murder, and just overall chaos.
