The Mandalorian Showrunner Used Book Of Boba Fett To Avoid A 'Hard Reset' In Season 3
By TYLER LLEWYN TAING
Viewers watched the titular Mandalorian bounty hunter, Din Djarin, find a connection and purpose as the young, Force-sensitive Grogu’s protector on their journey to find the Jedi. While they succeed in their quest at the end of Season 2 and are separated, Din and Grogu have already been reunited during the spin-off series, “The Book of Boba Fett.”
Showrunner Jon Favreau explained why they resolved Season 2’s finale with a spin-off series, saying, “We couldn’t just hit a hard reset.” As “The Mandalorian” is about Din and Grogu’s relationship, Favreau used “Boba Fett” to show how both handled their separation, with the showrunner adding their reunion is “a really good plot point that allows us to jump back into Season 3.”
To Favreau, there would be no show without the two, and he emphasized Grogu’s choice of family over destiny, adding, “Just because this kid has the potential and had training, does he belong away from the Mandalorian?” Fans can see what the future holds for this unlikely father-son duo when Season 3 premieres on Disney+ starting March 1, 2023.
