The Legend Of Vox Machina Crew Completely Scrapped The Original Pilot
By RAFAEL MOTAMAYOR
Although fantasy has always been popular, “Game of Thrones” launched the genre into the mainstream, leaving many studios and streaming services racing to make their own fantasy epics. One of the shows to come from this demand is “The Legend of Vox Machina,” an animated adventure based on a hugely popular “Dungeons & Dragons” livestream, “Critical Role.”
The show’s first episode invites its audience into an entertaining and thrilling world; however, this wasn’t the initial idea, as showrunner Brandon Auman revealed: “We originally had a totally different two-episode pilot that we kind of just threw out.” After much work, the two-episode premiere adapted part of the pre-”Critical Role” livestream campaign the cast played off camera.
“The Legend of Vox Machina” delivers a faithful adaptation of the characters and highlights the major moments of the livestream, but with a story that audiences have never seen before. As real-world scheduling issues prevented the cast from always being present for the livestreams, fans can see what would happen if the entire party was together during the whole story.
