The Hilariously Weird Way Gilligan's Island Was Pitched
By BEN PEARSON
Producer and writer Dava Savel knew Sherwood Schwartz, the creator of "Gilligan's Island," for 30 years. She shared an anecdote from Schwartz about how the show came to be.
On his way to the studio, Schwartz stopped at a gas station and, seizing a spontaneous opportunity, asked the attendant if he could sing the show's theme song to him.
This positive feedback from a random person outside the entertainment industry boosted Schwartz's confidence in his concept and helped him proceed with his official pitch to CBS.
