The Hilarious Way Leonard Nimoy Taught Catherine Hicks About Star Trek
By JEREMY SMITH
When Catherine Hicks auditioned for “The Voyage Home,” the actor had zero knowledge of the series and had trouble identifying a piece of “Star Trek” equipment.
Hicks told the Sci-Fi Diner podcast, “I auditioned with Leonard Nimoy and I didn’t know what a transformer was, I was reacting to something real tall and sparkly.”
She continued, “He was like, ‘Wait a minute, wait a minute! What do you think a transformer is?’ And I said, ‘I don’t know, like a big Christmas tree.’”
Nimoy grabbed the small device from his desk. Hicks added, “It was all a big discovery for me, and I think it worked for the character because she didn’t know anything either.”
Later, she also revealed a question that she asked Nimoy and William Shatner during a scene in the transporter: “What does it feel like to beam up?’ And they said, ‘It tingles.’”
