The Gunsmoke Spin-Off You Probably Never Knew Existed
By WITNEY SEIBOLD
After the popularity of "Gunsmoke," the show's producers created its spinoff show, "Dirty Sally," during its 19th season. The show badly flopped and is almost a lost media today.
The series saw Jeanette Nolan reprise her role of "Dirty Sally" Fergus, who appeared in two notable "Gunsmoke" episodes. However, the spinoff show ran for only 13 episodes.
Nolan's comedic talents were praised, but the show's funny tone was likely its doom. Plus, it was scheduled at 8 p.m. on Friday nights, a time where no one was home back then.
The show was never released on any home media, and since it predates widespread VHS use, no one has old bootleg cassettes of it either. It pretty much vanished after 1974.
