"The Boys" is a popular Prime Video series. However, Garth Ennis, writer and co-creator of "The Boys," originally conceived it as a comic book series set within the DC Universe.
According to artist and co-creator Darick Robertson, Ennis' first pitch for "The Boys" was about a team of private investigators dealing with the messes left behind by superheroes.
This concept would have portrayed traditional superhero comics as sanitized propaganda. However, Robertson felt the initial idea was "unworkable" and convinced Ennis to revise it.
The duo decided to use parody characters — The Seven, a team of superheroes closely modeled on DC's Justice League — and pitted them against the titular five-person operator squad.
Though DC Comics published the first six issues of the series, they ultimately dropped it due to the controversial content, prompting the move to Dynamite Entertainment.
