The Biggest Sci-Fi Flops 2023 Has Seen So Far
By RYAN SCOTT
There have been some major sci-fi movies released in 2023, with films like “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” performing well at the global box office in the wake of the pandemic.
However, not all of 2023’s high-profile sci-fi movies have performed well. The following films are the biggest sci-fi bombs of the year so far.
Quantumania
“Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” is one of the highest-grossing movies in 2023, but it’s also a relative flop for Disney, topping out at $476 million worldwide.
The film kicked off the MCU’s Phase 5 and made $106 million on its opening weekend; however, interest quickly faded, leading to a giant revenue drop in its second week.
Rise of the Beasts
The success of 2018’s “Bumblebee” gave hope to the failing “Transformers” franchise, prompting a new film in the series with “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.”
With mixed reviews, Steven Caple Jr.’s relaunch of the franchise is currently sitting at just $341.2 million globally against a $195 million budget before marketing.
65
Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, the duo behind “A Quiet Place,” tried to dislodge the monopoly “Jurassic Park” seems to have on dinosaur movies with “65.”
Adam Driver stars as an astronaut trapped on a prehistoric Earth. Despite having a budget of $45 million before marketing, the film only managed to make $60.7 million worldwide.
