The Biggest Problem With Netflix's Terminator Anime
By RAFAEL MOTAMAYOR
The "Terminator" franchise is getting its first animated entry with Netflix's "Terminator Zero" which will be set in Japan. However, this new setting caused a problem.
Writer Mattson Tomlin explained to Entertainment Weekly, "I was aware that there aren't really guns in Japan, and I don't think I quite appreciated how real that was."
Tomlin shared that he wrote a scene in an early draft where violence breaks out and people all over the city pull out guns. Unfortunately, he would need to rewrite it.
He said, "My partners at Production I.G came back and said, 'Hey, so...there are no guns [in Japan]. If we needed a gun, we don't know where we would get it."
Luckily, they came up with a solution: Eliminate all guns and rely on other weapons like sword fights against Terminators with blades for arms.
