Despite the criticisms of their “Game of Thrones” final season, creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have proven themselves to be skilled at adapting books to TV.
Their latest project is Netflix’s “3 Body Problem,” based on Liu Cixin’s acclaimed novel. Despite some significant changes, the show remained surprisingly faithful to the book.
One of the major changes is its ensemble casting, which reflects an international focus. This results in the creation of the five main characters who aren’t present in the book.
Liu Cixin’s original story follows a Chinese researcher named Wang Miao. However, the show divides his story among the leading group of characters called the Oxford Five.
Another significant change is that Season 1 adapts more than just “3 Body Problem,” drawing from the other books in Liu Cixin’s “Remembrance of Earth’s Past” trilogy.
This includes Sophon’s appearance, Thomas Wade’s role, and many dramatic events towards the end of the season. However, these changes do streamline the story’s timeline.
