The Anti-James Spy Bond Film Made By 007 Veterans
By BEN PEARSON
Following the James Bond film “Dr. No,” a handful of folks who were working on the existing 007 movies temporarily splintered off to make a completely different kind of spy film.
In 1965, “The Ipcress File” stars Michael Caine as Harry Palmer, a British secret agent on a quest to find a missing scientist, with twists reminiscent of 1970s paranoid thrillers.
The film lacks mysteriously beautiful women, suggestive double entendres, and dangerous laser beams or gadgets, making it in many ways the antithesis of a James Bond movie.
The film features the work of many James Bond veterans, including composer John Barry, Oscar-winning set designer Ken Adam, editor Peter R. Hunt, and producer Harry Saltzman.
