The 14 Best Dexter Episodes, Ranked
By JENN ADAMS
14. Cold Snap
Going by the name Jim Lindsay, Dexter is a resident of Iron Lake, New York, living a crime-free life and trying to leave his murderous past behind. Unfortunately, he ignores Deb's advice and takes his teenage son Harrison in, setting up a “Dexter: New Blood” season of cold truth and harsh redemption in which the secrets he's been hiding for years are finally unearthed.
13. About Last Night
Though not a fan favorite, Season 3 is a solid entry in the franchise, and this episode (Season 3, Episode 9) shows Dexter relishing his newfound companionship with Assistant District Attorney Miguel Prado. However, his happiness is short-lived when Dexter realizes Prado doesn't value Harry's Code, and unknowingly, he has created a monster.
12. Scar Tissue
The episode's (Season 8, Episode 4) major draw is a revelation dating back to Dexter's youth. Deb is being treated for PTSD by Dexter's childhood psychiatrist and learns some truth about her brother and father, which leads her to send the car Dexter's driving careening into a lake, only to end up saving him.
11. Wrong Thing
The episode's title — "Do the Wrong Thing" (Season 7, Episode 6) — refers to a line Dexter uses to persuade Hannah to go on a date with him so that he can kill her; however, he finds himself falling for the beautiful murderess. No one will ever compare to Rita, but in Hanna, Dexter finally finds someone to love him despite knowing he is a killer.
10. Dirty Harry
Believing that the Trinity Killer shot Deb, Dexter takes matters into his own hands and begins investigating the prolific murderer. Trinity is the season's Big Bad, but "Dirty Harry" (Season 4, Episode 5) shows viewers how much he and Dexter have in common, with the two killers serving as mirror images of each other as they each plan out their next kills.
