The 12 Best Tom Hiddleston Movies, Ranked
By MARGARET DAVID
12. I Saw the Light
Weird editing choices render this musical biography of Hank Williams Sr. lifeless, but Hiddleston’s complete dedication to the role is admirable. He and Elizabeth Olsen’s on-screen chemistry works well, and Williams' granddaughter, Holly Williams, appreciates what Hiddleston tries to do.
11. Kong: Skull Island
This jungle-based war/monster movie has a messy plot, but does well in showing the grotesquely cool ways in which people get eaten. Hiddleston is charismatic as the stoic-but-savvy mercenary type, making it all the more confounding that "Godzilla: King of the Monsters" didn't reveal that Charles Dance was an older version of him.
10. Midnight in Paris
Hiddleston gives a charming performance as F. Scott Fitzgerald, and the gadfly hedonism of the 1920s era is evident in his character’s behavior. This is also the first time Hiddleston would work with Owen Wilson, and the two play off of each other with quick and natural grace.
9. Thor: The Dark World
Despite the film’s weaknesses, Rene Russo's Queen Frigga gets a meaty, tragic role which benefits hugely from the work she and Hiddleston did in the first film. It’s still Loki’s show, though, and it’s no surprise the film underwent reshoots to add more of Hiddleston’s pained god with the gleeful facade.
8. High-Rise
This 2015 film adaptation of J.G. Ballard's 1975 novel is an LSD-laced late-night chat about privilege and the effects of technologically-induced isolation. Dr. Robert Laing is the anchor of the film, whose self-destruction is both charming and memorable thanks to Hiddleston.
