The 10 Funniest Scenes In The Scream Franchise, Ranked
By BEE DELORES
10. Perfect Requel
In 2022’s “Scream,” Mindy lights up the screen during her epic monologue about reboot sequels or “requels.” Mindy states absolute facts, from pointing out the Mary Sue in many modern films to lampooning “Scream” itself, and while it's not a guffaw-inducing scene, it does elicit a hearty chuckle.
9. Always A Virgin
In the 1996 original, resident film nerd Randy details the three rules to survive a horror movie: never have sex, never drink or do drugs, and never say, “I'll be right back.” The scene’s humor stems from how Randy deconstructs horror tropes as the film molds its very own — breaking down the rules will forever make audiences giggle.
8. Movie-Within
“Scream 4” opens with a hilarious movie-within-a-movie-within-a-movie sequence in which moviegoers are treated to the bloody openings of two “Stab” sequels. The actual opening kill would be pretty ho-hum if not for the two fake-outs that came before, and Wes Craven toys with expectations to build into a release of laughter by the end.
7. Derek's Song
“Scream 2” gives Sidney a reason to laugh when her boyfriend Derek climbs up on a tabletop in the college cafeteria and launches into a delightfully aw-shucks rendition of The Partridge Family's “I Think I Love You.” It's as funny as it is sweet for good guy Derek, who is undeservingly killed by Mickey.
6. Sidney, Sidney…
Jill Roberts (Emma Roberts) has a brilliantly deranged monologue at the end of “Scream 4,” revealing her as a killer motivated by becoming famous. Laced with sardonic humor, “Scream 4” was ahead of its time with its commentary on influencer culture, and Roberts dishes up an ingenious, wonderfully imbalanced performance.
