Ted Lasso Season 3 Makes West Ham Into A Good Team, But They're Terrible In Real Life
By VALERIE ETTENHOFER
Season 3 of "Ted Lasso" looks as if it's shaping up to be a showdown between Ted Lasso's (Jason Sudeikis) fictional team, AFC Richmond, and its competitive rivals, West Ham United. However, an unlucky sense of irony has come for the Apple TV+ show, as the real-life West Ham team in England's Premier League doesn't seem to be performing well these days.
The show's fictional pundits predict AFC Richmond to finish 20th and face relegation and West Ham to finish in the top four, but the real-life situation is quite different. Although West Ham hasn't finished low enough to face relegation since 2011, the team in 2023 ranks 18th in the league and is in real danger of a demotion — just as Richmond endured in Season 2.
With about a dozen more matches left this season as of publication time, the real West Ham team may still have time to turn its record around and make an AFC Richmond-style comeback. Fans may be gunning for a big Richmond win in the show, but the "Ted Lasso" cast actually donned West Ham colors in 2022 to attend a game in support of their fake rivals.
