Taika Waititi Knows That Pleasing Star Wars Fans Is No Simple Task
By FATEMEH MIRJALILI
Although "Star Wars" has embraced the episodic format in the last few years, it will soon return to the big screen with Taika Waititi's "Star Wars" film, the franchise's first feature since 2019's "The Rise of Skywalker." That's a lot of pressure on the Oscar-winning filmmaker's shoulders, but he already knows that he must take his time to develop something everyone will love.
In an interview with Rolling Stone in July 2022, Waititi suggested that while he wasn't interested in just diving into origin stories for older characters, he still wanted to research and write something fans would love. The filmmaker said, "I just feel like for me, I'm never gonna please the fans. You know, I don't want to mess with something that's so treasured."
As a filmmaker, Waititi is confident about being patient and coming up with a story that fans would be proud to watch. He stated, “If it's not right, it's not right. If it's not ready, it's not ready. [With] Star Wars, I don't want to rush.” Waititi also addressed the possibility of his film getting scrapped, stating that he understood why it could happen and wasn’t too scared of it.
