Sylvester Stallone Left His Cliffhanger Co-Star Hanging On A Dangerous Stunt
By BEN PEARSON
The high-octane, pulse-pounding "Cliffhanger" follows expert climbers who are forced at gunpoint to retrieve money from a terrorist plane crash in the mountains.
The film opens with Gabe (Sylvester Stallone) trying to rescue Sarah (Michelle Joyner), whose harness broke. Stallone wasn't really on the mountain for the scene, but Joyner was.
Joyner told the Telegraph it’s a convincing scene although Stallone’s parts were filmed on a soundstage. "I think, 'So, did I really need to risk my life like that?'" she said.
When she made it to the soundstage to film the studio shots with Stallone, Joyner got a standing ovation from the crew for doing the work for real.
Although he couldn’t do the scene due to his fear of heights, Joyner suspects the applause emasculated Stallone, and caused him not to be particularly nice to her.
"I don't think he appreciated that," she recalled. "I was like a reminder that he didn't have the same balls that I did to be up there."
