Sylvester Stallone Has Been Trying To Get This Movie Made For Decades
By SANDY SCHAEFER
Sylvester Stallone is known for creating action franchises like “Rocky,” “Rambo,” and “Expendables,” but his dream project is to make an Edgar Allan Poe biopic.
Stallone's Poe biopic has, quite literally, been in the works for longer than Poe was alive. Poe died in 1849 when he was 40 but led a life much like one of his stories.
In a 2019 Instagram post, Stallone revealed a script draft he wrote for "Poe" (as the project is titled) that dated back to March 1, 1979.
He said, “It's a never-ending journey, and I would hate myself if I don't continue it at least to the best of my ability and try to see it actually come to fruition.”
On top of writing and directing, Stallone had also once intended to star in "Poe,” but abandoned the idea in the late 2000s. Instead, he had his eye on casting Robert Downey Jr.
Downey Jr. revealed he had read the "Poe" screenplay in April 2009, telling Metro (via JoBlo), “Stallone wrote a great script that he wants to direct about Edgar Allan Poe.”
However, this project hasn’t come to fruition because most Hollywood producers are far more interested in making action movies with Stallone.
