Sydney Sweeney is the New Barbarella in Feature Film Remake for Sony
By LEX BRISCUSO
"Euphoria" and "The White Lotus" actress Sydney Sweeney is set to star in a new "Barbarella" film, with a fresh take on the story, for Sony Pictures. According to Deadline, "Insiders add that the new movie is still in development with no writer or director attached, but say that Sweeney is expected to executive produce," as well as star as the titular character.
With no word yet on the plot, the reboot will be based on the 1968 original that starred Jane Fonda and was adapted from Jean-Claude Forest's French comic book series. Following multiple breakout hits, Sweeney helming the project, and filling some major shoes, in order to attain “A-list” status, is both a bold and necessary move.
Sweeney has been working with Sony a lot lately, with her currently shooting the upcoming Marvel movie "Madame Web" for the studio opposite Dakota Johnson. Sony has also picked up a new film called "The Registration" with Sweeney set to produce and star, which leaves fans plenty to be excited about.
