"Superman & Lois" on the CW is always playing fast and loose with the Superman mythos. The opening of the series sees Clark Kent (Tyler Hoechlin) and Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch) moving back to Smallville to take over the Kent family farm with their 2 kids.
In the first season, viewers were led to believe that the villain was “Captain Luthor,” but this was revealed to John Henry Irons aka Steel, with the real villain being Superman’s half-brother, Tal-Rho. The second season continued to play with expectations, with a radiation-suit-wearing figure being revealed to not be Doomsday, but the infamous Bizarro, the alternate universe Superman.
Superman actor Tyler Hoechlin is pulling double duty, and he said, “We always want to find ways that Superman is genuinely challenged. It's always a difficulty with a character like that who has so few vulnerabilities.” Particularly, Hoechlin enjoys the question of “what happens if Superman loses his control,” which is a core theme of the season.
