Stephen King Is Still In The Dark On Why WB Won’t Release Salem’s Lot
By CHRIS EVANGELISTA
A new film based on "Salem's Lot," Stephen King's 1975 novel about vampires who take over a small New England town, was announced in 2019 and has long since finished production.
However, Warner Bros, the studio behind the vampire adaptation, has held it back for years. Initially scheduled for a 2022 release date, it keeps getting inexplicably extended.
King has complained on social media, commenting that he thinks the movie is "quite good." He said it was "old-school horror filmmaking: slow build, big payoff."
"Not sure why WB is holding it back; not like it's embarrassing, or anything. Who knows. I just write the f***ing things," King tweeted on X.
The film was first scheduled to open on September 9, 2022, before being moved to April 21, 2023, then it was removed from the release date calendar altogether.
Warners was reportedly considering showing the film on Max instead of in theaters. As of now, no official announcement has been made of any release at all.
