Stephanie Beatriz Stood
Up To A Disrespectful Guest Star On The Set Of Brooklyn
Nine-Nine
By FATEMEH MIRJALILI

Stephanie Beatriz is as much of a badass as her leather-clad no-nonsense "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" character Rosa Diaz, who doesn't like to be controlled, and has no qualms about letting her colleagues know it. Beatriz shares her longtime on-screen character's no-nonsense demeanor, because when a guest star was disrespectful towards her and other cast members on the "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" set, the actress stood her ground and said her piece.
In an interview, Beatriz recounted her experience filming the episode with an older male guest star who consistently disrespected her and others on set by calling them “babe” and “honey.” The actress bluntly advocated for herself, stating that she’d like to be called by her actual name. The guest star was stunned by how the actress defended herself, while the rest of the cast and crew thanked her for speaking up to help keep a comfortable work environment for everyone.
Advocating for herself hasn’t always been easy, since when she was younger she often couldn’t afford to lose a job due to the money or health insurance it provided, which made her non-judgmental towards people who are in the same situation. Today, Beatriz is unafraid of losing jobs that treat her unequally in the workplace. She resembles her on-screen character in the most inspiring of ways, and what’s more badass than that?
