Star Wars: The Acolyte Recruited An Incredible (And Unlikely) Director
By JEREMY MATHAI
The upcoming Disney+ series, “Star Wars: The Acolyte,” will bring fans an exciting new story set in The High Republic era, over a century before the prequel trilogy.
According to Disney and other sources, Kogonada — known for projects like “Columbus” and “After Yang” — will direct two installments of this eight-episode debut season.
Kogonada made a name for himself through his explorations into topics such as neorealism, perspective, sound, and thematic interests linking together the works of great artists.
While the filmmaker may seem like an odd choice as his previous works are quiet and restrained character studies, “Acolyte” looks different from other “Star Wars” projects.
Kogonada’s role will almost certainly be restricted to directing alone, much like in Apple+’s “Pachinko.” However, he’ll likely add plenty of his personality to the show.
