Star Wars: Rogue One Used A Harrison Ford Box Office Bomb As Inspiration
By WITNEY SEIBOLD
"Star Wars: Rogue One" drew significant inspiration from the 1978 film "Force 10 From Navarone," a World War II movie starring Harrison Ford that bombed at the box office.
According to "Rogue One" designer Christian Alzmann, the concept of a "ragtag commando team" from "Force 10" shaped the character dynamics and design in the "Star Wars" spinoff.
"Force 10 From Navarone," a sequel to the 1961 film "The Guns of Navarone," featured a diverse cast including Ford, Barbara Bach, Richard Kiel, Carl Weathers, and Franco Nero.
The idea of a mismatched group of soldiers on a critical mission, a hallmark of "Force 10," was mirrored in director Gareth Edwards' 2016 "Star Wars" spinoff.
It stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Donnie Yen, Riz Ahmed, and Jiang Wen and mirrors the archetypal roles in many WWII movies, reinforcing the parallels between the two films.
