Star Wars Cut A Heartbreaking Redemption Scene Between Chewbacca & Kylo Ren
By MICHAEL BOYLE
In "Star Wars: Episode IX — The Rise of Skywalker," Chewbacca is taken prisoner by the villainous First Order and has to contend with Han and Leia's angry, wrathful son, Kylo Ren.
While not much happens between the two in the finished version of the film, there is a deleted scene where Kylo tortures Chewbacca for information about the Resistance.
The dark, heartbreaking scene would have shown Kylo at the depths of his depravity, being unspeakably cruel to Chewbacca, even mocking him over the death of Han.
Looking into Chewie's mind for useful information, Kylo would only find happy memories from his childhood, which unexpectedly reminded him of the innocence of his youth.
This would've also been the real turning point where Kylo finally started to make his way back toward the light after two and a half movies of conflict.
The film already struggled to make Kylo's return to the light convincing and unrushed; another torture of a fan-favorite character would not have helped.
