Star Trek: TNG Based A Romulan Directly On Sean Connery

While writing the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "Face of the Enemy," screenwriter Naren Shankar took inspiration from the 1990 film "The Hunt for Red October."
In the oral history book "Captains' Logs: The Unauthorized Complete Trek Voyages," Shankar said that Sean Connery, who starred in “Red October," inspired the role of Toreth.
Shankar and "Next Generation" screenwriter René Echevarria did some vital brainstorming during the writing of the episode and decided that Toreth should be a woman.
The role of Toreth was played by Carolyn Seymour. "All the dialogue I wrote for the show was with Sean Connery's voice in my mind, and then just changed the name,” Shankar said.
For one particular line, “The Federation is neither stupid nor foolish,” Shankar could hear very clearly in Connery's voice and said it was surreal to hear it coming from Seymour.
