Spoiler Warning!
This story contains spoilers for Season 3, Episode 7 of “Star Trek: Picard.”
Season 3 of “Star Trek: Picard” reunites seven cast members from “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” teasing fans with the possibility of other cameos. In Episode 7, titled “Dominion,” Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) reaches out to an old Voyager crewmate, Tuvok (Tim Russ), for help with a kidnapping, offering a brief reunion for “Voyager” fans.
The reunion is short-lived, however, as Captain Tuvok turns out to be a Changeling spy in disguise, quickly shattering the nostalgia. This unexpected twist leaves “Voyager” fans with mixed feelings, as the brief moment of warmth is replaced by a gut-wrenching turn of events as the showrunners cleverly weaponize nostalgia by incorporating it into the plot twist.
The cameo also raises questions about Tuvok's career trajectory, with inconsistencies between his appearance in “Star Trek: Lower Decks” and “Picard.” In “Lower Decks” and “Voyager,” he is a security officer, while in “Picard,” which takes place 20 years later, he is a starship captain — an unlikely role and a little inconsistent for the character that has left fans puzzled.
