Ed Speleers played Jean-Luc Picard’s son, Jack Crusher, in “Star Trek: Picard” and was emotionally affected by the sentimental father-son story in the show’s final season.
Picard must stop Jack from nearly destroying everything and does so by being deeply honest with his son. Speleers told Collider how powerful this storyline was for him as a father.
Speleers admitted, “Things are just always bubbling away emotionally because of children, and that's good. And I mean all emotions, everything from love, fear, happiness, anger.”
He added, “I think it was insightful because also what it made me do is maybe look at how I've been as a son, as well, and maybe the things I've done and haven't done.”
As a dad, Speleers was able to understand where Picard was coming from, and he also tapped into his experience as a son to inform his performance as Jack.
Speleers was also heartbroken at potentially saying goodbye to playing Jack Crusher forever. He said, “I just want to play Jack Crusher for the next 15 years and then retire.”
He was also incredulous about the series ending, adding, “I'm going to bloody cry now [...] I'm just like [...] ‘Is that the end of Star Trek? Is that it? [...] Is that just done?”
