Star Trek: Picard Is Evidence That Amanda Plummer Was Born To Play A Sci-Fi Villain
By WITNEY SEIBOLD
On Season 3 of "Star Trek: Picard," actress Amanda Plummer plays the mysterious Vadic, a bounty hunter and captain of a massive, overpowered weapons craft called the Shrike. With her red gloves, slick hair, scarred cheeks, and fascistic wardrobe, Vadic follows the tradition of threatening Trek villains, and Plummer plays the part to perfection.
Plummer began her acting career in the 1980s and quickly gained recognition for her unique, twitchy intensity, displayed in numerous high-profile films like "Pulp Fiction." She won a Tony Award for a production of "Agnes of God" and two Emmys for her guest spots on "The Outer Limits" in 1996 and on "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" in 2005.
Compared to the typical propriety of "Star Trek," Plummer is unpredictable, dark, scary, and perfect in how out-of-place she appears. She is completely convincing, representing a dark, criminal corner of "Star Trek" that is not usually explored, but more than anything, she is emotionally and dramatically immediate.
