Stan Lee’s First Meeting With Tom Holland Was A Spider-Man Roast Session
By JOE ROBERTS
Making his debut in 2016’s “Captain America: Civil War,” Tom Holland has gone on to star in three Spider-Man movies and several other appearances in the MCU.
At the beginning of his solo franchise, Holland would have a chance to meet Spider-Man creator and Marvel legend Stan Lee, who gave the young actor some light teasing.
According to the book MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios, director James Gunn was tasked with filming three Lee cameos for the MCU, including “Spider-Man: Homecoming.”
The author wrote, “When Gunn introduced Lee to Tom Holland, the newest Peter Parker, Stan the Man ribbed the young actor: ‘Everyone says you’re great! Personally, I don’t see it.’”
According to Gunn, everyone within earshot “died laughing” after Lee roasted the new Spider-Man star, so it appears that the joke was all in good fun.
Fans of Marvel will know Lee never shied away from giving up-and-coming stars a hard time, so it’s not surprising that he gave Holland some light hazing when they first met.
