Spider-Man: No Way Home Made A Demand That Caught J.K. Simmons Off-Guard
By WITNEY SEIBOLD
J.K. Simmons returned to the role of J. Jonah Jameson in 2019’s “Spider-Man: Far from Home” for the first time since Sam Raimi’s 2007 film “Spider-Man 3.”
While Raimi’s Jameson looked the same as in the old Spider-Man comics when the character was in “Far from Home” and “No Way Home,” he had a few differences, like a bald head.
However, producers also wanted Jameson to go without his trademark mustache, a change Simmons objected to, as he explained on the “Happy. Sad. Confused.” podcast.
Simmons said, “[Sony told me] ‘No, we don’t want you to have the flattop haircut and I was like, ‘Wait, wait, wait. What?’ [...] ‘Yeah, we don’t want the cigar and the mustache.’”
He continued, “So, it was a negotiation then at that point. [...] Obviously, the most important thing is that he’s still the same blowhard and he does have the same damn mustache.”
