Snake’s Signature Look In Escape From New York Came From Kurt Russell Himself

John Carpenter’s sci-fi action movie Escape From New York stars Kurt Russell as the eyepatch-wearing former soldier-turned-criminal Snake Plissken.
While speaking with Men’s Health, Russell shared that the iconic eyepatch was his idea. He said, “I pitched it to John Carpenter and he immediately said, ‘Yes. Do it.’”
He added, “I knew then that I’d made the right decision to sign on to the movie. Some directors hem and haw, they’re like, ‘Hmmm. I don’t know.’ But with John, it was immediate.”
