The Last of Us
Based on the popular video game of the same name, "The Last of Us" follows a teenage girl fighting to survive in a post-apocalyptic world. As in "The 100," the nature of the apocalypse is not what matters here; instead, the series explores what it means to be left behind and confronts the horror of isolation.
Yellowjackets
Like "The 100," "Yellowjackets" poses a similarly vexing question, asking viewers to imagine what would happen if a group of high school soccer players became stranded in the woods following a plane crash. It's a brilliant series that benefits from outstanding performances and the genius casting of the younger and older counterparts of the characters.
The Wilds
"The Wilds" follows a group of teenage girls with wildly different experiences stranded on a faraway island; it has fascinating characters and plenty of twists to keep viewers on the edge of their seats. Fans of "The 100" will appreciate how "The Wilds" depicts the social consequences of an environment where social norms don't exist.
Station Eleven
Based on the novel by Emily St. John Mandel, "Station Eleven" tracks the consequences of a flu outbreak that kills most of the world's population. Despite the dire circumstances of the setting, it's one of the best post-apocalyptic — and most hopeful — shows in recent memory; it's proof that life, love, and art can continue against all odds.
The Leftovers
"The Leftovers" is a post-apocalyptic series where the apocalypse looks different than viewers have seen previously. The show isn't about the apocalypse — it's about what it takes to survive and the stories survivors tell themselves to keep living — however, it isn't without hope, which makes it such an invigorating, stirring watch.
