Shia LaBeouf’s Mutt Isn’t Completely Forgotten In Indiana Jones 5
By DREW TINNIN
“Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” revealed Shia LaBeouf’s Mutt as the hero’s long-lost son, but the character doesn’t appear to be in “The Dial of Destiny.”
Fans were divided over Mutt, but removing him would be partially admitting defeat. While he’s not in the movie, “The Dial of Destiny” briefly acknowledges the character.
“Dial of Destiny” co-writer and director James Mangold confirmed audiences will “find out what happened to him” at some point during the film's 154 minute runtime.
Joining Indy’s new adventure is Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Helena, who Mangold described as “a wonderful set of contradictions — charming and brilliant, but also a lot of trouble.”
Mangold addressed the reasoning for choosing Helena over Mutt, explaining, “I wanted to capture that wonderful energy between Indy and an intrepid female character.”
One of the characters will likely have a quick throwaway line explaining Mutt’s whereabouts. Audiences can find out when “The Dial of Destiny” hits theaters on June 30, 2023.
